The Professional Edition of the QDesign Music Codec allows media producers to create 44.1 kHz stereo sound for 28K modem delivery with good audio fidelity. This means that a one-minute, 44.1kHz stereo file can be reduced from 11MB to 110KB, achieving up to 100:1 compression.
The technology is based on a fundamentally new approach to encoding audio for low bitrate applications that uses proprietary techniques in psychoacoustic and parametric coding to achieve high compression while maintaining full bandwidth, stereo sound.
The codec is used through the QuickTime 4 interface. To encode a file you simply open it in QuickTime 4 Pro and then export the audio file or movie audio using the QDesign Music Codec with the desired compression rate.
