Version 2.1 - 8/29/00

  • The first major revision of the underlying PARIS Studio Control Library since version 1.8.
  • ADAT window now properly restores original patchbay configuration after transfer is completed. It would fail to do so under certain circumstances (specially in regards to MEC modules configuration). Recording:
  • Fixed an audio leak that would occur before an automated punch. This would be heard as a small amount of leakage from adjacent track as punch was engaged.
  • Fixed a bug that caused tracks with any EDS insert to not monitor properly during record.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause audio to leak during any record event from an adjacent track if there was no audio objects on the track that was recording.
  • Changed how the end of record process is handled. The old method would require a delay (500 ms) per card. In multi-card systems this delay would be cumulative and could become significant. The new method reduces this delay to 500ms regardless of number of cards installed.
  • Changed the manual record delay values to allow higher track counts for manual punches. This setting has no effect on automated punches.
  • When a recording is now stopped PARIS will reflect the stopped position when the stop button was pressed. Previous versions would stop a little later in project time. Automation:
  • Fixed a bug that would cause automation write to fail IF transport was not stopped after write (for example if play was hit again). This would lead to data not being recorded and the track would be left in a state that would not allow any further writes.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the master fader level to not be restored correctly when a project was opened. The graphic displayed value would be correct, but the audio would not reflect the correct value. This would occur if the previous master fader value was at minimum level.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause effect send/return/pan levels to sometimes not be loaded properly when a project was opened. This was rare, but would happen if the settings were left at extreme positions. Editor:
  • Fixed a bug that caused paste and paste multiple to NOT respect the snap (front, sync, back) destination when snapping objects to grid during paste.
  • Fixed a bug that would cause object paste to not account for fade in/out regions in snapping, it now uses the same rules as drag/drop actions. Wave/Sound Designer II file support:
  • Expanded the support of file formats, so you can now import mono and stereo 24 bit wav and Sound Designer II files (you could not import 24 bit mono before 2.1).
  • SubMix Update: fixed a bug that would cause "Update All" to fail. It would only update one SubMix before stopping.
  • Fixed a problem in aborted record operations that would lead to file cache assertion errors.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause some MTC problems when changing into and out of record without stopping first.
  • This version includes fixes made to the MEC modules firmware. These fixes correct problems with lock/unlock to external sync when using the SMPTE module.

Version 2.1rc1

    Editor:
  • Paste function now correctly pastes to the grid if the 'snap to grid' is enabled. Effects:
  • PARIS will now properly report when effect sends are maxed out and a new effect send can not be instantiated. Note that you may get a warning when opening some projects created with previous versions, in which case you should check your effect send assignments.
  • The problem with effect send signals not being routed properly or "leaking" from non-assigned tracks has been fixed.
  • The effects no longer "pop" when a new effect is instantiated. The effects are muted briefly when first created.
  • Fixed a problem that would sometimes result in improperly routed effects, which resulted in various problems, such as muted tracks or wrong effects when using inserts.
  • Wave file support: some issues with importing or exporting of stereo wave files have been corrected. PARIS would sometimes create stereo wave files with incorrect lengths. Playback and disk access:
  • Playback drops that were not reported in 2.0 release are now correctly detected and reported.
  • The disk access characteristics have been changed back to pre 2.0 by default. PARIS will now handles higher load situations better without the need for the 'PreQFactor' line in the configuration file.
  • The internal buffer handling of audio has been changed and now handles sections with a large number of small edits or many small fades much better. Control Surface:
  • Switching SubMixes could sometimes incorrectly change the scrub or shuttle modes selected by the user. This has been fixed. Recording:
  • Aborted punch-ins no longer cause a problem. Submixes:
  • Fixed a bug that would cause a small loop of audio to be played in a loop if all virtual SubMixes were muted.
  • Fixed a problem that caused the master meter to be displayed incorrectly after a bounce to disk or SubMix update was performed. SMPTE:
  • There have been many changes for supporting the SMPTE card.
  • The default pre-roll for new projects is now 1 second.
  • You can now select a "chase while transport" engaged which will follow incoming SMPTE locations while play is engaged but not yet started.
  • You can now choose External Word Clock Sync while locking to LTC or VITC for sample accurate lock with external devices. MTC:
  • You can now choose External Word Clock Sync while locking to MTC for sample accurate lock with external devices.
  • Fixed a problem that could incorrectly cause PARIS to NOT detect an invalid record path before record was engaged.
  • PARIS no longer crashes on launch in Windows98 SE systems.
  • PARIS now detects and reports if the PARIS MIDI driver is not correctly installed. The missing MIDI driver would cause PARIS to require two presses on play before audio playback would begin and would cause submix updates to fail.

The demo is for an older version (1.81) and obviously does not include the required hardware, which means it won't record or play audio files. So, you won't fully experience the complete hardware/software integration that makes the PARIS System unique, but it'll give you an idea of how it works.
