LAME is a fast MPEG encoder for compressing RAW, WAV and AIFF audio files. The download contains both an executable command-line program and a Windows DLL. The DLL is meant to be used as a plug-in by other programs that support external MP3 encoders such as Audiograbber.

- Quality is substantially better than ISO psy-model based encoders and close to that of the FhG encoder.

- Encodes faster than real-time on a PII 266. Lower quality modes are much faster.
