Version 1.0 reviewed by Mitch Bechtel - 10/14/98

This program is simple to learn and use and comes with about 25 preset TR-909 style precussion sounds as well as a couple of classic drum loops. If you are looking for a mega-featured beat sequencer, this isn't the one, but it's simplicity makes it fun to use and lets you get down to business fast without finding yourself caught up in extra features.

Installation

Simply unzip the file where you want to use it and possibly make a shortcut for easier startup. No extra installation/registry mumbo jumbo.

Interface

The interface is clean and simple. No sub-menus and confusing views to learn or manuver. Just simple and direct drum pattern creation.

Samples

Samples are 44.1khz 16bit for nice sound quality and sessions can be streamed to a wave file for use in other applications. One of the biggest down sides of this program is the method user samples are loaded. Only six user banks are available and they must be added outside of the main program with an external tool. This is discouraging enough to keep you from experimenting with your sample library.

Arranging Patterns

Each pattern is played in consecutive order. Again, at the expense of additional features, things are kept simple.

Bugs/Stability

All aspects of the program ran without a hitch (one of the benifits of a simple program) on a Pentium 200 with SoundBlaster AWE32.

Final Analysis

This program makes for a great drum beat sketch pad, has great sound quality and an even better price (free). If you are looking for a more serious beat creator, you'd be safe to skip checking this one out.
