The MIDI Manufacturer's Association (MMA) assigns each manufacturer of MIDI products a unique ID which is used in conjunction with the model ID (assigned by the manufacturer) to identify which product is the intended receiver of their system exclusive messages. This way other products receiving the same messages can ignore them.
