FloatCrusher reduces the resolution of audio samples, allowing the emulation of sound of older digital audio such as early video games. FloatCrusher is similar to a bit crusher in the sense that they both reduce the resolution of the samples. Unlike most other programs that reduce audio resolution, FloatCrusher does this through the floats as opposed to the bits. The samples in all vst hosts are represented by 32-bit floats, this enables huge dynamic overhead compared to integers. Other bitcrusher converts the float to an integer and the bit reduction is a product of that conversion. The quality depends on how many bits the integer can hold. Features
