Blade's MP3 Encoder (BladeEnc) is a freeware MP3 encoder. It is based on the same ISO compression routines as mpegEnc, so you can expect roughly the same, or better quality . The main difference is the appearance and speed. BladeEnc doesn't have a nice user-friendly interface like mpegEnc, but it is more than three times faster and it works with several popular front-end graphical user interfaces.
There are currently two versions available for Windows 95/98/NT. The executable and the DLL. The executable is a command-line program that can be run from a DOS window or by another program. The DLL (Windows Dynamicly Linked Library) is used in conjunction with other programs that can take advantage of BladeEnc from within the program.
Features
- Reads standard WAV- and AIFF-files.
- Batch encoding. Can encode any number of samples in a row.
- Wildcards supported. You can for example encode all WAV-files in a directory by typing "*.WAV".
- Stereo or Mono output. Can downmix to Mono on the fly.
- Supports the following bitrates: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256 and 320 kBit/s.
- Flags like Private, Original and Copyright can be set.

- Task priority can be set from the commandline and is by default set to LOWEST so that you still can use your computer effectively while encoding.
Requirements
- Windows 95/98/NT
- Although the EXE version works as a stand-alone command-line program, a Windows front-end can make the program much easier to work with, adding a GUI interface with drag-and-drop and easy batch file support. A couple of the more popular front-ends include:
- The DLL version requires third-party software that can take advantage of BladeEnc's. A few of the more popular programs include:
There are also many other versions for different platforms available for downloaded from the Product Home Page.
