Version 4.0 - 3/10/00

  • A revised instrument editor, with new windows that can be switched on to take advantage of large displays. For drag/drop and copy/paste operations, the editor now supports multiple selection of instruments, layers, and samples: this makes assembling an instrument file faster than ever.
  • DLS level 2 is now supported.
  • The renderer is faster and some problems with instrument balance have been resolved (see the note below).
  • Chorus and reverb effects. These are not suitable for "serious" applications, but casual users have been requesting them for a long time.
  • To edit a sample, the instrument editor can now launch either Audio Compositor's wave editor or the external editor of your choice.
  • The instrument editor can write a Cakewalk .ins file (see the Reports menu). This is for knowledgeable Cake users; do not use this feature unless you thoroughly understand installing .ins files in Cakewalk.
  • The new single-instrument export feature works even in unregistered copies, so unregistered users can check format compatibility.
  • The renderer has a new limited-polyphony mode (so that AC won't always perform wretchedly compared to players that steal notes).
  • Many other refinements suggested by users have been added.

The unregistered shareware version displays a nag dialog on start-up, disables stereo output and SF2/DLS file saving and limits sample output to 22kHz, 16-bit (registered version does 48kHz, 32-bit). Also, the limited KRZ file reading functionality is disabled.
