Background:
I have a lot of experience using both hardware and software synthesizers. I use Analog Box to create base sounds, which I then import into other software or hardware samplers and synths to create music. I have a Pentium 200 MHz, Windows 98 and SoundBlaster Pro.

Ease of Use: 5/10
Analog Box has a steep learning curve and requires patience, but that is because it is very low-level stuff you're working with. Once you get the hang of it it is great for creating raw sounds that can only be made with an analog synth.

Sound Quality: 5/10
The program outputs directly to any 44KHz stereo output on a sound card. The result is clean waveforms, which you can record using external sound capture software or by creating a recording circuit that outputs to a file.

Features / Power: 8/10
Analog Box is unique in the number, simplicity and quality of the basic circuits you can create. They provide the building blocks to create almost any sound you want from scratch.

Overall Rating: 8/10
While the learning curve is steep, it is well worth the trouble. This program is great for geeking out and making some base sounds that you can build on and tweak in other music software. It crashed only occasionally and could use some extra functionality to make it easier to record to a wave file directly. However, everything you need is there.
